Hold the Ketchup: Daring restaurants top burgers with peanut butter

The expression “peanut butter goes great on almost everything”…is true to this new trend we have spotted: peanut butter on burgers. A recent article in Burger Business magazine discussed the trend and how several restaurants around the country are tapping into it by adding these nutty burger options to their menus.

Fat Guy’s Burger Bar in Tulsa, Okla. serves a peanut butter bacon burger on its menu. It’s one of the restaurant’s most popular menu items.

“It has been a huge hit for us. The brave don’t hesitate to give it a try but others are often urged by others who have tried it and loved it,” said Mike Meehan, co-owner (with Chris Dodge) of Fat Guy’s Burger Bar in the article. “I would say that 90% of the people who have tried it have loved it and order it again and again.”

We have spotted several creative peanut butter and burgers combinations. Peanut butter is a versatile ingredient because it can be used in sweet and savory dishes.  Other variations we have discovered included a peanut butter and jalapeno burger from Bagger Daves, and a peanut butter pickle bacon burger from Killer Burger.

Interested in trying this trend at home? Consider making these Thai peanut burgers from Taste of Home magazine.

November may be almost over but don’t forget these tips on how to celebrate National Peanut Butter Lover’s Month.
